There was a time I dreaded going to the toilet because of the strain and pains I’d face. That was also a time I hated the discomfort, pains & even blood stains I experienced while sitting or walking.

What Are Piles?

My STORY: What You Must Know To Be Free Of The STAPH Infection!

I must admit that the topic around the Staph infection has been mixed with confusion, claims & complaints from people. So, it would be of no use, if I put up my claims too..

I want to rather, share with you my experience about this infection… A personal experience? Nah! These are bittersweet experiences of my customers which taught me a few lessons. Lessons I wouldn’t have learnt without their feedback..

While we move into this together, it would be good if I write briefly about what Staph really is, its common symptoms & the root cause of its infection..

The DefiNition…

Staph is a shortened version of Staphylococcus, which is a group of bacteria that causes a number of diseases as a result of infection of body tissues. However, most infections are caused by the Staphylococcus aureus.

The bacteria are normally found harmless, in the nose and on the skin of 25%-30% of healthy adults and in 25% of hospital workers!


The SymPtoms…

The Staph Infection can range from mild & requiring no treatment TO severe & potentially fatal..

*The Disease On The Skin results in a local collection of boils or a discharge of Pus. Affected areas may be red, swollen, itchy or painful.

This reminds me of Mrs. Joy, a customer at Illupeju, Lagos Nigeria. When I first met her to deliver my solution, her face was numbered with boils. On my next visit, few months later, they were gone along with a few other symptoms!

*The Disease In The Blood is an advanced form of the infection that causes high fevers, chills, worm-like movements, stomach rumbling, low blood pressure, joint pains among others..

This makes me think about Mr. Jamiu at Surulere, Lagos Nigeria. His case bothered me the most because he had been tormented by the infection for more than 2 years. When I met him in May 2015, he complained about a tingling sensation in his “manhood”, stomach rumbling & general body pains.

What You Should Know To Save You From Diabetes [PART II]

Is There A Solution To Diabetes?
I run with the belief that whatever problem that exists has at least a solution to it! And you’ll always find a clue to it when you dig out & study the causes of the problem.

In this vein, let us dig out the 4 causes of Diabetes & reflect on the solutions.

Cause #1: Auto-Immunity.

Auto-Immunity is a situation wherein the human immune system starts to attack its “own” cells! Quite strange but true! And this is the cause of Type 1 Diabetes. 

Like I did mention in the first part of this article, this immune system disorder, caused by faulty genes & environmental factors, can lead to a gradual damage of the pancreas (organ that makes Insulin)!

The only solution available to Type 1 patients, is Insulin Injections. They have to use special devices to check regularly, their blood glucose levels and respond as appropriate with Insulin shots. They are also adviced to observe the lifestyle practices I’ll be sharing below.

With regard to those affected by Type 2 Diabetes, its presence can be linked to heredity. The incidence of Diabetes can run in families so an unaffected person with such a family history has a high risk of being Diabetic! 

Let’s observe below, possible causes of Type 2 Diabetes and the lifestyle practices we can embrace.

Cause #2: Poor Eating Habits

It isn’t necessarily what you eat that matters but the habit you develop around eating. More attractive meals (take-aways, soft drinks, alcohol, hamburgers, pies…) are available which titilate the tummy and keep us asking for more.

The issue is that most of these foods are low in nutrients (such as vitamins & minerals) & high in calorie which eventually stresses your pancreas. 

Over time, weight-related issues from obesity to belly fat may come up which may eventually lead to Type 2 Diabetes!

The solution is to keep a written (or mental) log of the foods you eat daily and ensure a balance. Do you eat more of carbohydrates than proteins? Do you eat more of high-fat diets than unsaturated, low-fat? Do you consume fibre-rich, watery fruits & vegetables or not. Do you even go on a fast? Let your food log, guide your decision making.

Cause #3: Inactive Lifestyle

Your body is like a machine which requires fuel (glucose) to function properly. 

When you’re inactive (sitting or sleeping often, for example) and still eat incessantly, you increase the likelihood of being Diabetic! Why? 

Inactivity tends to increase your body cell resistance to Insulin. And if your blood glucose still rises, your Pancreas are overworked to the point of being unable to keep up.

Get active. Exercise! Have a walk, jog or just dance to your favorite music. Do something simple, short and sweaty. Getting active, gets your cells active, hence increasing its ability to absorb glucose!


Cause #4: Stress

Stress is quite a serious issue which is almost unavoidable in the fast-paced world we are now in. What is Stress? It’s your body’s response to energy-draining activities or events. 

It contributes to the development of Diabetes besides other causes. If not handled right, it worsens the case of those who are already Diabetic!

The solution to Stress is to limit or avoid completely, that stressful activity or situation, either physical or emotional. Spread your lips & smile. Laugh often. Be happy. Forgive quickly. Spend time with those who love you. And ofcourse, Sleep sufficiently.

What You Should Know To Save You From Diabetes [PART I]

Do you know this life-threatening issue has been on the rise through the years? 

During the days of our forefathers, the problem was hardly known. In 2013, it was estimated, according to the Williams textbook of endocrinology, that over 382 million people worldwide had Diabetes!
If you’re not affected by this malady, let me tell you why you shouldn’t stop reading me. 

90% of Diabetic cases is linked to the consumption of fast foods, sweet drinks & calorie-rich snacks.
It was reported by researchers from Imperial College London, that drinking just one can of (non-diet) soda per day raises the risk of developing Diabetes by 22%!

In addition, Diabetes, when poorly managed can bring up a myriad of issues ranging from eye infections to heart, skin and foot diseases.

So, What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a health condition where the human body fails to properly absorb & utilise glucose, gotten from digested food. This eventually increases the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood [Hyperglycemia].

This problem is either due to the absence of an important hormone, Insulin, an insufficient amount of it OR increased resistance to the hormone, by the body cells.
The term “Diabetes” is a shortened version of the full name Diabetes Mellitus, which is our focus in this article. 

Diabetes means siphon (to pass through) and Mellitus means honeyed or sweet. This is because Diabetes is characterized by excess sugar in the blood & urine.
You may have heard of Type 1, Type 2 forms of Diabetes before. There are actually 3 forms of Diabetes that affect people.

*Gestational Diabetes

This type of Diabetes is associated with pregnancy and it’s more likely to happen to women with poor eating habits & a sedentary lifestyle, prior to pregnancy. 

Due to the growing (fetus) baby, which demands “mommy” food, some women develop high levels of blood glucose, which exceeds the amount of insulin they normally make.

*Type 1 Diabetes

This type of Diabetes is usually referred to as insulin-dependent or early-onset Diabetes. It often occurs below the age of 40 or during childhood. You should note that it accounts for 10% of all diabetic cases which is nowhere as common as Type 2.

In this case, there is complete lack of Insulin in the body which means the patient must take insulin injections for the rest of their lives! The cause is genetic, wherein the person’s immunity gradually destroys a part of the “pancreas”, the organ that makes insulin.

*Type 2 Diabetes

This type of Diabetes is referred to as maturity-onset Diabetes because it is prevalent in older people. However, young people now suffer from it, due to the availability of high-calorie but malnourished foods. Approximately 90% of Diabetic cases are Type 2.

In Type 2 diabetes, there is either insufficient insulin made by the pancreas OR the body cells have become resistant to the hormone. Overweight or obese people are more likely to be diabetic because of their poor habits around their diet & lifestyle.

The 2 Ignored Secrets To Lasting Weight Loss

These are not really secrets, for you must have heard or read about them somewhere. However, these things, which are the basis for weight loss, have been ignored.
Before we begin, I want us to clarify some things about your weight.

 

Firstly, there is no such thing as a “naturally fat” person. We have big-bodied people (an example is Great Khali, a wrestler) and small-bodied people (an example is Jet Li, a chinese actor). This phenomenon is solely due to genes – traits passed down in the family.
Fat is a complex compound which your body makes from digested food & stores away in you for a number of reasons. Fat can be gained or lost regardless of whether you are big-bodied or small-bodied.

 

Secondly, being fat (or thinking you’re fat) doesn’t mean you are in trouble. Fatness becomes a big-time issue when it affects you in any of these “12 ways“. Overweight becomes a problem when it presses you physically & emotionally.

<>YOUR MINDSET & HABITS..

Oh yes! Weight loss is quite a long process so you can’t afford to neglect this factor. It doesn’t matter if you’re taking the best diet in the world or exercising the ideal way. When your mind isn’t prepped & clear on why you want to lose weight, all your efforts become futile.

In the same vein, when you don’t create a routine around what you do to lose weight, you don’t establish the habits vital for a lasting effect. It is quite a fact that a number of people succeed in losing some weight but eventually lose their way and fall back to square one. A square where they gain even more weight than was usual.

So, how do you keep this factor in check?

Create A Why..

Get a piece of paper & write out 10 reasons why you want to lose weight. If it is too much trouble, then I am afraid you may never lose weight. This test will not only tell how determined you are but it will serve as an ongoing motivation on your journey. It is important you put your list on your mirror or anywhere open in your room so your eyes won’t miss it everyday.

Do What You Love..

A habit is an action repeated so often that it becomes second nature (automatic) to whoever is engaged in it. Creating a habit to help you lose weight can be as hard as nails but as rewarding as heaven. Why don’t you soften the process by doing something you love which will consequently lose that weight for you?

Think out simple fat-burning exercises that suit you & your daily schedule and create a routine out of it. It could be dancing to your favorite music (perhaps with your family), swimming in that pool or walking to work. Just think of something “active” & begin it. Make the process enjoyable & you won’t even know when you have created a habit out of it. What inevitably follows will be weight loss.

They are one of the most active organs in you, seeking for calories to burn. Their unending activity in you may lead to its wear & tear hence the need for proteins. Healthy muscles do use up the stored fat in you!

Fibres such as found in vegetables & fruits, give your muscles much work in digesting them. More work means more calories to burn. Fibres as well as proteins also makes you feel full hence helping you get what you want.

4 Small Meals A Day..

You should know that high-calorie foods are not your friends. Sugar-rich snacks, soft drinks & fried foods should be limited or stopped IF you can. This type of foods stimulate more insulin (needed to regulate blood sugar) which tends to increase fat storage in you.

Take a small 4-square meal daily fortified with proteins & fibres. Protein foods such as (boiled) eggs, beans, lean meat should be included. It is important you include fruits & water at intervals of your diet plan.
